There are few exciting things to do in Blackfoot. From the moment we knew we'd be moving here we looked forward to going to the Eastern Idaho State Fair. It is hosted in our small town and we live basically right across the street from the Fair grounds. The Fair was the first week of September. I was two weeks from baby #2's due date and we wanted to make the most of the Fair experience for Truman, we didn't think he would get out much for the month or so after baby's arrival.
The Fair was kicked off with a parade, the parade route went down the street a little ways behind our place. We walked over and enjoyed the different parade particpants. In true Truman form, he didn't care about the parade and just wanted to race Dave in this open grassy field. We weren't able to get a spot on street curb so Truman didn't get to experience the candy grab. It wasn't a complete bust though, on the walk home the Fort Hall Police threw candy and a Frisbee to Truman. To say he was in heaven would be an understatement.
We went to the Fair a total of three days. The first day we were able to get in free with a pass that Dave's boss lent us. That first day was mostly spent figuring out what the Fair had to offer and of course the consumption of fried foods.
The second day we took Truman to the petting zoo, had him do a little fishing (unfortunately, he couldn't get a fish to bite), made an attempt to ride on a carnival ride. Dave tried a burger that had a donut as its bun which he said was better than expected. And once again other fried foods were consumed.
The last day that we went to the Fair, Truman did fishing again, we tried to find this "live" dinosaur that was supposed to be walking around but we couldn't find him. Truman played in a corn pit, milked a fake cow, and finally got to ride the carnival ride that he had wanted to go on the time before, and we went and checked out all the 4-H animals. We of course had to finish our last day off with more fried foods (I'm pretty sure that Dave had a funnel cake each night).
Overall, the Fair was a fun experience and it's something we can look forward to each year we'll be here. We probably won't go three times again but now we know what to expect.
Truman loved the little pamphlets that they had outlining what you can do at the Fair each day (you can see him holding it in the milking cow and corn pit pictures). To this day when he finds the pamphlet he brings it to me extremely excited about it. So I guess it was a true success for him.
