After I finished student teaching I did a few weeks of substitute teaching while Dave finished off his second semester of law school. Woo-hoo one year of law school down! And then a week later we set off to Utah for the summer. Dave was extremely fortunate to be given the chance to work at my extended families law firm to gain some real world experience. On our way to UT we stopped in Chicago and spent time with my friends Matt and Laura from High School. They were the most amazing hosts! It was awesome!
It was really nice to be able to live amongst my family. I haven't had that chance in years. Dave worked and I spent time with my family and cared for our newest addition to our family. We are no longer a family of two but with this four legged fur ball of energy we are a family of three!
In the beginning of August we found out that Dave was accepted as a transfer student at the University of Idaho. Which is where we are now but that was not an easy journey! This summer has shown me that the easy way is not the Eisele way.
Dave applied to transfer to U of I a month before their deadline. The online status said that the school had requested all the paperwork so he thought all was well. A month later we were wondering why he hadn’t heard anything from the school, he called to find out and the lady he talked to said that his application had never been processed and that they weren’t even aware that they had his application because it was received the week she was on vacation and she never realized it. WHAT??!!! Lucky for us Dave was able to get everything squared away and subsequently was accepted. We found out on August 3 and left on vacation with my family to Alaska on August 4 until August 13. His school started August 22. We still had everything in our apartment in Michigan mind you. So, this began the mad rush to find a place to live (that allowed dogs), figure out how we were going to get back to MI and pack all our stuff up and get back across the country to Idaho. This is how the craziness ended up.
We docked into Vancouver Canada on August 13 began our drive back to Provo, UT then we had to pack our stuff up that we had in the place we were staying. Fly out August 15 drop Buffy off at the vet to get spayed while we were gone. We get to the airport only to be told by the friendly TSA officer that my driver’s license is expired and that I needed another proof of my name (showed her a credit card with my name on it). Get to MI at 11pm take a taxi to our apartment pack our stuff. Rent a U-Haul truck the next morning pack everything up and hit the road that same day by 10pm. Pray that I don’t get pulled over when I am driving since my license is expired. Drive a ridiculous drive to UT get there at 2 pm we pick up our car transfer stuff into the U-Haul truck so that I can fit Buffy in the car with me. Run to the courthouse to get a marriage license because I couldn’t find mine then go to the DMV get a temporary license. Pick up Buffy from the vet she had just had the surgery the day before. Run to Petsmart to get her a cone because apparently the vet doesn’t provide one. Hit the road again by 7pm drive to Boise and stop the night before continuing onto Moscow, ID. So if you couldn’t keep up we left Vancouver Canada on August 13th drove to UT, flew to MI, drove back to UT, then drove to ID and arrived at our apartment on August 19th. Like I said the Eisele way is not the easy way.
We love our apartment here we committed to the apartment before we ever saw it and couldn’t be happier. Especially since after calling like every property listed that allowed dogs there were only two available, we really lucked out.
Dave enjoys school much more out here. The class sizes are smaller and all around he just likes the atmosphere better. I was struggling when we first got here. I mean we are back to a small town (smaller than Rexburg) I have to go to a whole other state to go to Wal-Mart. Granted its only like 15 minutes away but still it is weird. And with it being such a small town it makes the competition for finding a job higher and with the awkward timing of our move my dreams of getting into the public school system right after graduating were dashed. But after a couple months of job hunting I finally landed a job (today in fact!) at a daycare. It isn’t my ideal but its great pay and full benefits so I can’t complain too much! That’s us and a whole bunch of pictures to document our time. Good job if you read this whole thing too!
(Above: Greg and I went to a Renaissance Fair and there was real jousting. In fact National Geographic was filming a documentary on jousting on this day. Look for me in the upcoming mini series debuting November on National Geographic Channel.)
