This past summer really flew by! Warning. I am recapping the entire summer so this is going to be long. I really need to blog more often.
Dave took a few courses over the
summer, he was in school from May until the week of the Fourth of July.
Dave had about a month and half before school started up again. He
played video games, hung out with the pup, and also started working on a
writing assignment he has to complete for graduation.
No matter what we are doing Buffy has to be on top of you or at least touching you. In this case she had to be on top of Dave.
I worked. It was pretty miserable. My attendance really dropped because of summer. I had kids that moved to the older class and then some that just left for the summer. Since my numbers were so low- I was at about 6 kids a day and because my class was below ratio (the ratio for my classroom is 1 adult to 7 kids) they took my support teacher away. Basically it was 6 kids below the age of 2 and me all day everyday together. It wasn't necessarily difficult to wrangle the kids (I have them trained very well) it was just the fact that my daily conversation consisted solely of, "Do you like playdough?" "We don't eat playdough" "Let's pretend to be puppies and kitties!" "Who pooped!" A person needs another adult to talk to! It was especially bad when I was working ten hour shifts. A person can really go crazy.
On top of working I was also job hunting. Actually I have been job hunting since February. I was trying to get an elementary school teaching job. I was unsuccessful, but the first week of August I interviewed for a paraprofessional job at my local school district. I didn't get the job but they offered me another position. However, they couldn't officially offer me the job until they listed the job to other current district employees. That took a while so I had to wait around hoping that I would get the job and be ready at the drop of a hat to do another interview if requested. Well, I finally found out 2 weeks later on August 30th that I did get the job. Which means new adventures coming my way. Goodbye diapers I will not miss you. I will miss my little kids though. Some of the kids I have cared for since they were 13 months and I have gotten to watch them go from baby signing to using 3-4 word sentences. It is pretty amazing.
Dave and I have also been working in the Nursery at church. Awesome I know, 6 days a week with toddlers. :) Some how when July hit Dave and I were the only couple actually showing up on Sundays that were called to work in the Nursery. We have been in there every Sunday since mid July (minus 2 Sundays when we were out of town) when we are only supposed to work in the Nursery 2 times a month. Writing about this now I have to say it is rather commendable that I remained sane this summer. I mean I love kids but taking care of other peoples kids 6 days a week really could drive a person insane. We are still in Nursery but supposedly by the end of September we should only be in there once a month. Crossing my fingers that it's true.
Buffy has graduated to being able to have full run of the apartment when Dave and I are gone. Before this we had penned off the kitchen for her to stay in. I think she likes the freedom. She has also had free run of a field on campus when we take her out. She has yet to listen to the command "Come" but if we want her to come to us we just yell "Bye Buffy" and start walking away and she comes running. We really need to get the "Come" command down it would be really helpful. Obviously.
Running after birds can make a pup tired.
For fun this summer Dave and I have taken Buffy outside to go one walks and runs, we played some Wheel of Fortune on the Wi, and we played the card game Killer Bunnies. We also traveled to Boise and visited Dave's parents for an extended weekend. Then we made a week long trip to Utah to visit my parents, Matt and Kerry and their girls.
Playing Killer Bunnies. Buffy has a hard time deciding who to sit with so she tries to sit with each of us for a while.
